Adults 18 and over with a Body Mass Index (BMI) > 25 in the overweight category, or a BMI > 30 in the obesity category. Your 20-minute phone call with Dr. Taw will determine whether the program is appropriate for you. You can calculate your BMI here: https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/educational/lose_wt/BMI/bmi-m.htm (If your BMI is < 25 but you have gained a significant amount of weight and are interested in weight reduction to improve your health, Dr. Taw may still be able to help you.) Furthermore, if your focus is on non-scale victories and improving your health/wellness, rather than weight loss, Dr. Taw can coach you through this journey and meet you where you are.

*This program is not appropriate for those with active eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

This is a high-intensity, comprehensive, and individualized approach consisting of nutrition therapy, physical activity, and behavior modification. At BestFit, this is delivered by a skilled and experienced obesity medicine specialist — to whom you will have access through frequent follow up visits and a messaging system through your portal.

Each individual is different on how they respond to nutrition, exercise and behavior changes. Weight loss also depends on several factors including your current weight, age, gender, metabolic profile, comorbidities, lifestyle (including sleep and stress) and activity level. A good starting point is to improve your health, well being, and quality of life, making you feel better overall! You will be able to discuss your specific personal goals with Dr. Taw.

Your nutrition therapy or meal plan will be chosen with your specific needs in mind, in a shared decision-making process with Dr. Taw. Options include (but are not limited to): well-formulated ketogenic, flexible low carbohydrate, plant-based, and Mediterranean style eating patterns, and the personalized and safe use of intermittent fasting, time-restricted eating, or meal timing. The consumption of high-satiety foods, whole foods/real foods, and less processed, hyper-palatable foods is encouraged. The goal is to find a smarter and effective eating pattern you will enjoy and can stick to long term.

A long-term maintenance plan is provided at the end of your 3-month program.  However, if you are interested in continuing with another 3-month round, this can be discussed with Dr. Taw. In addition, “Refresher” appointments can be arranged and scheduled (hourly rates will apply).

Yes, Dr. Taw can certainly work alongside your primary care provider—in fact, it is required that you have a primary care provider throughout the program.  Dr. Taw may request for certain preliminary labs through your primary care provider or other specialists.

This is a 100% virtual or telemedicine practice which visits are done remotely through a HIPAA-secure digital platform.  Currently, Dr. Taw is able to treat patients in Pennsylvania, New York and Virginia, where she holds medical licenses.

If you do not have current labs, Dr. Taw may ask for specific labs to be ordered/done through your primary care provider.

If you are interested, we can discuss appropriate anti-obesity medications (AOMs) that might be right for you. Please keep in mind, the cost of AOMs varies depending on your insurance coverage.
